What is the 55+ Club?

UR Pride is excited to start our older adults’ group for 2SLGBTQ+ members (ages 55+)! Funded by the City of Regina and the New Horizons for Seniors Program, the 55+ Club will be providing peer support and referrals to senior folks in Regina, holding 55+ Advisory Council meetings every two months and connecting with community organizations to build a more robust and inclusive community!

We’re currently seeking 55+ Advisory Council members. If you’re interested, contact seniors@urpride.ca!

We also host regular 55+ talking groups on the first and third Wednesday of every month at 7pm via Zoom.

To register for these groups, contact Mirtha, the seniors coordinator: seniors@urpride.ca!

Mirtha Rivera

Meet the Seniors Coordinator!

Mirtha Rivera was born in the capital of Santiago, Chile, where a military coup overthrew the elected national government in 1973. Mirtha came to Saskatchewan as a political refugee with her husband and young son in November 1975. The cold weather didn’t freeze her creative spark, and she continued her organizing work in the Chilean, women’s immigrant’s and arts communities. She is a singer, musician, writer, political activist, animal-lover, and mother of two grown sons. She and  her compañera began their relationship in 1989, lobbied for LGBT rights (including the right to marry) before 2005, and married in 2010.
